Life With Garage Doors & Garage Door Openers

Estimated read time: 4 minutes.

Have you ever wondered about what your life would be like without your garage door? If you have never run into problems with your garage door then you probably actually haven’t, but regardless there’s no time like the present to think about how life would be without a garage door opener. Life with a garage door but no garage door opener would be okay, but life without a garage door and with a garage would be pretty terrible for a host of reasons. In this article we’ll take a not-so-serious look at what life might be like if you were in one of these camps. This article isn’t meant to distress anyone but is only meant to be taken to maybe have you appreciate the little things in life a bit more. Of course the little thing that we will be focusing on in this article is directly garage door related.

Without a garage door your life would include a great deal more cleaning and sleeping, namely of your garage. With no garage door your garage becomes nothing more than a makeshift shelter for things like your car. You won’t be able to store most things in your garage because of the possibility of them becoming wet during a storm or getting dirty if there is a bit of wind. You will have to keep everything in your garage covered so that the large opening in the side doesn’t cause them to get wet or otherwise ruined which basically means that you might as well just keep them outside. Your car will be nearly as vulnerable to damage as it would if you simply parked it on the street and your home will be more vulnerable to intruders as well.

If you had a garage door these problems wouldn’t be so bad as you could close it and mitigate the bulk of them. However, without your garage door opener opening and closing the garage door at the touch of a button the whole thing becomes a bit more cumbersome. You will then have to open your garage door manually which, while good exercise, can get tiresome quickly. Garage doors use their springs to offset a lot of the weight that you would usually have to lift, but even with that help lifting your garage door open and closed can be a hassle. Pulling in and out of your garage with your car requires more steps than ever which can really add up the minutes quickly when you spend five minutes of each journey getting in and out of your car. This is also all thought about while under the assumption that you are tall enough to open and close your garage door on your own. A garage door without an opener also poses a rather significant security threat for a few reasons. If you have a garage door and no opener and want to get the same sort of security that you would get from a garage door opener then you would need to use a physical lock like a padlock or combination lock. This means that you will have to open and close the garage door from the same side each and every time in order to make sure that you can lock the garage door. Or you would have to go back through the house every time you needed to lock the garage door. This is not only annoying but it also nearly defeats the purpled of having the easy accessibility of a garage in the first place.

So if you are starting to cringe at the thought of having no garage door or having no garage door opener then the next time you use your garage door remote or just press a button to raise or close that door take a moment to appreciate it. A working garage door and garage door opener may not but huge luxuries, but they do make things in your life a whole lot easier than they would be without them.
